Ghana was starting in A.D. 400. They traded goods from Sudan to North Africa and they traded goods on Senegal River. They called Senegal River as "the land of the gold", also Arab traded with them a salt for gold. Because Ghana had a lot of salts that came from the salt mines in the north of Ghana. Also, they got gold from the gold mines that was coming from the south of Ghana. In A.D. 1070, Ghana was powerful and wealthy empire, because of they started to taxes from trade, also they taxes on the workers. As they entered the trade area and they would taxed and when they left the trade area, they would taxed again. The people were good people, and they were in safe at that time, because they had a huge army. Also, they didn't fight to their enemies, because they were peace people. The kingdom was divided into different groups and the leaders were leading into each areas. They had laws in each groups. The people, who were living in Ghana, were the farmers, miners, and artists. They made the clothes by a dry mud that from the sun baked it. During at that time, the most popular story in Ghana was Anansi the Spider. The people were enjoying their life and they would squabbled to other people of their neighbors for just fun. Most people love to dance in the festivals and there would have the drums, which were popular for them. Nobles and the common people's religion was believed in many gods and goddesses. As many years later, when in around A.D. 1230, many people in Ghana became Muslim, but the rulers of Ghana wasn't Muslim. That was not a good time in that year and many people started to more and more fight each other about the religions that they wanted to common the religion as Muslim. Then Almoravids invaded and there was a holy war against infidels. Then Ghana won the war, but they lost their power and then the kingdom of Mali invaded and took over them.
Ghana was should to named Ouagadougou. Gold Coast, that used to be controlled by Ghana, was later took over and controlled by English colonists. The kingdom Ghana is known for other the kingdoms as the "kingdom of gold". Ghana's capital was Kumbi Salih. Today, the Republic of Ghana is named after the medieval Ghana Empire of West Africa.
